Jayne Sargent

Jayne Sargent, co-director of Steedsman Limited, sadly passed away, aged 56, on 7th October 2013, after a long and very brave battle with cancer.

Originally from Walsall at the heart of the leather industry, Jayne left school in 1973 and trained as a bridle stitcher at Modern Saddlery.  She met Colin, her future husband, and together they formed C B Sargent bridlemakers in 1994, and Steedsman Limited in 1995. Jayne always played an active role in both businesses with a hands-on approach to any task required. Together with Colin, she promoted the companies at trade shows,  both at Beta and AETA in U.S.A., where she met and made many life-long friends.  This was to be reflected by the huge amount of people from far and wide who attended her service of thanksgiving. Jayne will always be remembered for her happy smile and wicked sense of humour. A foundation is being formed to honour Jayne’s lifelong commitment to the Equestrian Industry with all profits/donations going to Cancer charities.Colin says that both himself and Jayne, over the last 10 years, have seen and experienced people, many of whom are in this industry, who have been affected by this terrible illness, and sincerely wishes to “make a difference”. A website and blog have been set-up for people to be involved –
