Jayne Sargent

Jayne Sargent, co-director of Steedsman Limited, sadly passed away, aged 56, on 7th October 2013, after a long and very brave battle with cancer.

Originally from Walsall at the heart of the leather industry, Jayne left school in 1973 and trained as a bridle stitcher at Modern Saddlery.  She met Colin, her future husband, and together they formed C B Sargent bridlemakers in 1994, and Steedsman Limited in 1995. Jayne always played an active role in both businesses with a hands-on approach to any task required. Together with Colin, she promoted the companies at trade shows,  both at Beta and AETA in U.S.A., where she met and made many life-long friends.  This was to be reflected by the huge amount of people from far and wide who attended her service of thanksgiving. Jayne will always be remembered for her happy smile and wicked sense of humour. A foundation is being formed to honour Jayne’s lifelong commitment to the Equestrian Industry with all profits/donations going to Cancer charities.Colin says that both himself and Jayne, over the last 10 years, have seen and experienced people, many of whom are in this industry, who have been affected by this terrible illness, and sincerely wishes to “make a difference”. A website and blog have been set-up for people to be involved –

  1. I worked with Jayne for 6 years and i am very sad to have seen her pass from her battle with cancer. She was a nice, caring individual who worked hard, and even when diagnosed with cancer stood tall facing it head on. Now Colin has made this blog to raise some money in her name and to help others with there fight against Cancer

  2. Jayne was a truly amazing, courageous lady who treated this dreadful disease with a positive no-fuss attitude, and with great dignity. All who knew her need to join Colin in his quest to raise funds to beat cancer.
For my part, I am kicking off in the new year with a coffee and cake morning if anyone can stomach my baking. Watch this space for more info.

  3. My beautiful mom, a truely inspirational mom and nan to my two young daughters. Not one day went by where she wouldnt make another person smile with her amazing smile, laugh with her great humour and make people feel worthwhile because she cared so much. I felt this every moment of every day. All this whilst she was fighting against this horrible disease, the disease that yet again takes another beautiful life away from us. I was there, by my dads side helping my mom through and through, giving my mom everything she gave me, as naturally as she gave to me, till that very last breath.
Unfortunatley, we are not alone. This is why we as family have decided to set up this organisation as we want to help make a difference, for all those familys and friends out there who sadly know or have known someone, who is or has suffered...it is time for change.
